[Featured story] First day of London-Bangkok 2014

Two London-based Thai cyclists starting their bike journey home (Thailand) ! 

"As soon as we got on the mainland we had to remind ourselves many times to cycle on the right side. We were lucky that there wasn’t much traffic on the stormy day. 

The first look at the French towns and people were not so different from the English. But of course only a few people speaks English here, We have to try and speak French as much as we can. And they would gladly listen our bad french and try to understand our sigh language. The further we go in land the nicer the scenery gets. Tall straight trees that stood in rows and rows, small rivers and little town that populate along them. All of these start to become like a beautiful painting. Although it’s raining and cold many times we were up on the hills with beautiful open landscape with large group of birds flying in the sky, horses running in the distance, clouds are so low touching the top of the hills. Nick will question whether this is real or not. We understood why there are so many beautiful paintings painted here. But no painting compares to the real scenery we saw with our own eyes that day."

"ทันทีที่เราขี่จักรยานขึ้นบนถนนของฝรังเศส เราต้องคอยเตือนตัวเองอยู่เสมอว่าให้ขับชิดขวา เพราะช่วงแรกๆเราก็มีเผลอลืมกันบ้างด้วยความเคยชิน

บ้านเรือน และชีวิตความเป็นอยู่ของคนฝรั่งเศสดูคร่าวๆก็ไม่ต่างจากฝั่งอังกฤษมากนัก แต่ที่นี่เขาไม่ค่อยยินดีนักที่จะพูดคุยภาษาอังกฤษ เราต้องพยายามพูดภาษาเขาให้ได้ เขายินดีที่จะฟังแม้ว่าจะผิดๆถูกๆ บางครั้งใช้ท่าทางภาษามือคุยกันมากกว่าความหมายในเสียงพูดเขาก็ยินดีที่จะช่วยอย่างเต็มที่ วิวทิวทัศน์สองข้างทางที่นี่ค่อยๆสร้างความประทับใจให้แก่เราสองคนมากยิ่งขึ้นทุกวัน ต้นไม้ที่สูงชะลูด และเรียงเป็นระเบียบ แม่น้ำ และบ้านตามชนบท เริ่มแสดงให้เห็นถึงความงามในตัวมันเองที่แตกต่างจากประเทศอังกฤษที่เราคุ้นเคย มีบางครั้งนิคถึงกับพูดว่านี่เราตายแล้วหรือเปล่า หรือนี่มันคือสวรรค์ ทุกอย่างดูสวยงามอย่างที่มันเป็น ที่ไม่อาจมีภาพวาดจากศิลปินคนไหนเทียบเท่าได้ มันอาจจะฟังดูเกินจริงแต่สุดท้ายนิคก็เห็นพร้องตามที่ผมรู้สึก ว่านกที่นี่มันบินสวยและมีสไตล์มากกว่านกที่ประเทศอังกฤษ"
